Are you familiar with Sophie Blackall‘s illustrations? I knew her from her brilliant “Missed Connections” series, and separately as a children’s illustrator, but I’m embarrassed to admit that I didn’t realize they were the same person, until today. Sigh. You’d think I would have put it together after spotting the video above, and seeing the cover of the most recent SCBWI Bulletin:
But nope.
It wasn’t until I started writing this that I figured it out. But now I’m thrilled to discover her site and all of her work, including another series “Drawn From My Father’s Adventures,” which looks amazing.
What do you think? Did you already have an illustrator-crush on Sophie Blackall?

Gaia–this is Meg, your newest acquaintance who took all those bottles off your hands. š I just bought the MC book for a friend of mine (we used to read them together when we were roommates). LOVE her work. So grateful you posted the video! I just shared it with her.

Yeah I haven’t read the book yet, but I think I’ve seen a bunch of them as they came out. I should get it…
Can’t wait to see what you guys do with the bottles!:)

Oh my! Super subway poster; the child with the tail is the exclamation point! Her video story reveals why so many people love New York, but she herself is particularly lovely! And Oh the little girl and her dragon kite! Sophie Blackall is new to me- a gift.

I know, doesn’t she seem so nice? Like she’d be a good friend to have. Her children’s books are wonderful too!
