Ooh Pixar’s upcoming “Brave” looks wonderful.
And I’m not just saying that because I have a thing for gingers.

I got the latest J Crew catalog in the mail yesterday and I am loving those colors. That pale, pretty, grey-ish pink, with the bright tangerine lettering that almost blends in? A combination that breaks all the design rules you learned in school, as it’s hard to read. They vibrate off eachother.
I rarely do this, but let’s talk hair for a second, shall we?
I was debating getting highlights again, (I got them for the wedding,) and was sort of giving myself a hard time for letting the roots grow back so much. Taking care of your hair and overall “look” seems like the adult thing to do. But I’m lazy and it’s expensive! And I haven’t come to terms with paying that much attention to my hair on a regular basis.
Happily, the term “Ombre Hair” came to my rescue. I can just grow out my roots and let my hair get really dark in the winter, (it lightens up in the summer,) and I can say it’s on purpose.
See all the cool kids are doing it:
I love it when I can combine cutting edge looks, with being lazy and cheap frugal.
We met Mr Brad Neely while shooting We Are Wizards, but way back in the day we screened Washington at Brooklyn Underground Film Festival:
Our love of all things Neely has been around for a while.
So we cannot be more excited that the moment we’ve all been waiting for is almost upon us.
Agh?! Right? Can’t hardly wait.
We’re off to Vermont this weekend to celebrate those guy’s one year anniversary of being parents! Ie this little guy’s birthday:
I recently read “The Character Test,” by Paul Tough, a fascinating article in The New York Times Magazine which profiles two schools that are working to “improve the character of their students.” (You should check it out if you haven’t. Lots of food for thought for everyone, even if you don’t have kids–like me.)
However, what immediately caught my eye were the accompanying illustrations, installed by Stephen Doyle and then photographed by Stephen Wilkes. At first I thought they were just cleverly photoshopped, but then I was so pleased to discover that they’re tape installations!
Pretty great, right? You can watch the installation of “Grit” here.
The Guardian currently is doing a How To Draw series and a few months ago Oliver Jeffers taught readers how to draw a penguin:
(See the rest of the tutorial here.) And then readers sent in their penguins! So fun.
We’re teaching our dog, Luna, “Leave it.” She’s getting really good at it, but it’s hilarious and kind of heartbreaking to watch her figure it out. She copes by just not looking at whatever treat she’s not aloud to touch. The whole thing reminds me a lot of this video:
