Illustration Friday: Breezy

February 27, 2009

I mentioned earlier that I’ve been working on new images for a portfolio update.  Here’s one of them:

Breezy hair.  Though I’m thinking perhaps I need to adjust that red twig bit on top of her head to the right.  It looks a bit like horns eh?

This has been making the rounds, but in case you missed it:

Its lovely.

Flowers in Winter

February 24, 2009

I was lucky enough to spend last Friday at the Rhode Island Flower Show.  It was sort of amazing to be suddenly surrounded by so much green and color, when outside was/is a wash of grey and white.

One of my favorite parts was the moss in the rock garden:

I took a lot of reference photos that I’ll use for drawings at some point.

I’ve started working with incorporating patterns and more organic shapes into my drawings for this new portfolio, so I’m excited to get to work with these.  I did a bit here:

I think they’re going to become someone’s hair…

The Oscars are tomorrow– do you have your cookies yet?  I do the Best Actor and Actress illustrations every year for Elenis Bakery in New York and its really fun.  This year they have cupcakes as well!

In unrelated news, I’m busy updating my website/portfolio and will have a bunch of new work in the coming months.  Hence the lack of posts here…

Yarn!

February 6, 2009

image from “A Yarn Outlet”

I got my yarn!  Its all so pretty.  I bought skeins from three different shops on Etsy:

•Baby Bamboo Yarn in Cream from A Yarn Outlet

•Patons Soy Wool Solids in Natural Snow from West Michigan Crafts.

•And a Hand Spun Mini Skien in White from BaanananeWoolWorks.

Of course I’ll need a lot more to do a whole blanket, but this is good enough for now.  I’m going to start over the weekend. Or maybe tomorrow– we’re playing hooky and driving off to Vermont with the Mister’s family for a weekend of skiing.  Or as I like to call it, A Weekend of Sitting in the Hot Tub.

Miss Lila

February 3, 2009

At the end of January, my friend, Lila Freeman, had a show of her drawings in Soho.

It was packed–Everyone had a great time and her work looked wonderful.

Her drawings are available for sale, so if you see any you like on Flickr, don’t hesitate to ask!
