Illustration Friday: Craving

June 10, 2009

Snow White is always craving a good, crunchy, green apple ever since… you know.

Hey Look!

June 3, 2009

I’m on the front page of Hire An Illustrator! right now:

That image is part of a series of large wall murals for Tazza Mia Bistro.  One of several projects I’ve worked on with the wonderful art director Risa Puno.

Illustration Friday: Contagious

I like the concept, but I didn’t really spend enough time on the execution.  I ran out of time. Ergh!

Ducklings

May 6, 2009

My sister emailed to tell me that there’s a Duckling Day Parade on Mother’s Day in Boston Common.   Shut. up.  (As my friend Mandy would say.)

“The Duckling Day Parade follows the path of the Mrs. Mallard and her ducklings from the book “Make Way for Ducklings” by Robert McCloskey. Kids dress up as their favorite character from the book!  Hello, adorable!”

Indeed.  Will you be attending?

Illustration Friday: Intricate

March 12, 2009

She had the most intricate hair…

Its hand-drawn in pencil, then inked, scanned, and finally, colored digitally.   While I’m not quite done playing around with my site, you can see more of my new work, in this style, here.

Header change…

March 1, 2009

While I’m doing a portfolio update, I thought a bit of tweaking to my actual site might be nice as well.  Unfortunately, I’m not up for a total overhaul, but happily, I think the general design holds up still.  I would like to change the header a bit though.

This is what the portfolio page looks like now:

And I’m thinking something like this?

So basically replacing the bird.  And I guess changing the font color(s?).

Is that too crazy? Cluttered? It sure isn’t subtle.  I tried this design with more muted versions of the colors and it seemed… lacking.

Like the colors were muted.

Part of me kind of likes it and I feel like I could make it work with some tweaking– so you didn’t lose my name etc.  But I think I’ll try some other color variations, but also work up some new designs as well.

Illustration Friday: Breezy

February 27, 2009

I mentioned earlier that I’ve been working on new images for a portfolio update.  Here’s one of them:

Breezy hair.  Though I’m thinking perhaps I need to adjust that red twig bit on top of her head to the right.  It looks a bit like horns eh?

Flowers in Winter

February 24, 2009

I was lucky enough to spend last Friday at the Rhode Island Flower Show.  It was sort of amazing to be suddenly surrounded by so much green and color, when outside was/is a wash of grey and white.

One of my favorite parts was the moss in the rock garden:

I took a lot of reference photos that I’ll use for drawings at some point.

I’ve started working with incorporating patterns and more organic shapes into my drawings for this new portfolio, so I’m excited to get to work with these.  I did a bit here:

I think they’re going to become someone’s hair…

The Oscars are tomorrow– do you have your cookies yet?  I do the Best Actor and Actress illustrations every year for Elenis Bakery in New York and its really fun.  This year they have cupcakes as well!

In unrelated news, I’m busy updating my website/portfolio and will have a bunch of new work in the coming months.  Hence the lack of posts here…

Miss Lila

February 3, 2009

At the end of January, my friend, Lila Freeman, had a show of her drawings in Soho.

It was packed–Everyone had a great time and her work looked wonderful.

Her drawings are available for sale, so if you see any you like on Flickr, don’t hesitate to ask!
